Chairman of Gategold Fitness Company Ltd., Sir Goodluck Obi (KSC), has said that the inclusion and expansion of human kinetics education in Nigeria are critical to addressing the country’s growing public health and productivity challenges.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the fitness expert and entrepreneur explained that human kinetics goes beyond sports and exercise.

It is the scientific study of human movement, health and performance, and it equips individuals with the knowledge to prevent disease, improve physical wellbeing, and enhance quality of life. he said.

“In Nigeria today, we are seeing an alarming rise in lifestyle-related illnesses, obesity, hypertension and sudden deaths, many of which are linked to physical inactivity,” Obi said.

“Human kinetics education teaches people how the body works, how to move safely and how to use exercise as prevention rather than waiting for sickness to strike. That knowledge is what we need in schools, workplaces, and communities,” he said.

Obi said countries that prioritise human kinetics and physical education produce healthier citizens, lower healthcare costs, and a more productive workforce.

He noted that Nigeria cannot rely solely on hospitals to solve health problems, as 70% of these problems can be prevented through lifestyle changes.

Sir Obi, who has spent nearly two decades promoting fitness and human kinetics across Nigeria, urged the Federal and State Ministries of Education to strengthen Human Kinetics curricula at secondary and tertiary levels. He also called for more qualified instructors, better facilities, and public awareness campaigns.

“Education is the foundation. When students understand why exercise matters and how to apply it, they carry that knowledge into adulthood. They become parents, teachers, and leaders who value health,” he said.

He added that Gategold Fitness supports this vision by supplying genuine fitness equipment to schools, gyms, and homes nationwide, and by providing free training on proper equipment use. The company was recently named Best Fitness Equipment Dealer in Nigeria for 2025.

“Equipment without knowledge is dangerous. That’s why we pair every sale with guidance from trained instructors. But the long-term solution is to build that knowledge into our education system,” Sir Obi stated.

He concluded by urging policymakers, school administrators, and parents to treat Human Kinetics as a core subject, not an extracurricular.

“A healthy nation is a productive nation. If we want Nigerians to live longer, work better, and contribute more to the economy, we must start with education on how to care for the body,” he said.
