Katsina State governorship candidate in the 2027 election under the African Democratic Congress, ADP, and former Senator representing Katsina North, Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita, has expressed concern over the poor handling of security issues by the Tinubu-led APC government in the country.
Senator Kaita recently aired his grievances in an interview with a private online television channel, JBC.
He alleged that it has become very clear that the present administration has failed on all fronts in protecting people’s lives and property, especially in the northwestern parts of the country, where the situation is getting worse by the day.
According to him, the federal government deploys significant military personnel only after an area has been devastated by bandits, citing an instance in the Matazu local government area of Katsina State, where one time Defence Spokesman, retired Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar was kidnapped and beaten by the criminals.
Sen. Kaita noted that even when the government deployed more troops to the area to rescue the late General’s wife, who was still in captivity after her husband’s death, the bandits still unleashed terror in the community, killing seven persons, pointing out that an uncountable number of persons were killed in the state.
He said, owing to their total failures, both the federal and Katsina state governments have resorted to blaming opposition political parties when discussing the insecurity bedevilling communities across the nation.
He decried that while Katsina State, alongside other northern states, has been suffering in the hands of bandits and other criminals for years, it was only when the armed banditry visited the south through the kidnapping of school children and their teachers in Oyo state that the federal government directed the recruitment of civilian guards in Katsina State after it did in Oyo to save itself from more embarrassing criticism.
He said Nigerians are still waiting for clearcut explanations on the video that trended recently of bandits passing through police check-point, the seven bandits that were arrested at Katsina Airport on their return from this year’s Hajj exercise as disclosed to the public by the Minister of Interio as well as the alleged sponsorship of some bandits by the Katsina State APC-led to perform the 2026 annual Holy pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The Senator who said he’s aligning with those calling on people to arm themselves to protect their communities against bandit attacks in the face of government failure assured that the ADC is prepared to provide better, people-oriented leadership if elected in 2027.
He then condoled Nigerian families who lost their loved ones at the hands of bandits and prayed for an end to the menace.
