President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, has called on the federal government to adequately equip military personnel and improve their welfare to boost morale and strengthen the fight against insecurity across the country.
Ndagoso made the appeal during a visit to Gindin Dutse community in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State, where he said improved welfare packages and adequate support for security personnel would motivate them to discharge their duties with greater commitment, diligence and patriotism.
He said the protection of life and property remains the primary responsibility of any government, urging authorities to intensify efforts to address the country’s security challenges.
“The first responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. Whatever the government is doing, it should double its efforts because Nigerians deserve to live and work without fear,” he said.
Ndagoso, who is also the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, noted that providing better welfare packages, modern equipment and adequate support for military personnel and other security agencies would boost their morale and strengthen ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
He also called on the government to provide adequate protection for farmers during the current farming season, noting that improved security in farming communities would enhance food production and support economic recovery.
Archbishop Ndagoso lamented that Nigerians had endured years of violence and insecurity, stressing the need for sustained and coordinated action to address the challenge.
He said security personnel serving on the frontlines deserved not only the necessary equipment to carry out their responsibilities effectively but also improved welfare packages that would encourage greater commitment and dedication to duty.
The CBCN president further urged the government to ensure that the families of security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty are adequately catered for.
Archbishop Ndagoso emphasised that addressing insecurity requires collective commitment and sustained government action, expressing hope that with adequate support, motivation and welfare for security personnel, Nigeria would make significant progress in restoring peace, security and public confidence across the country.
