The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, aimed at strengthening transport training, research, innovation and road safety in Nigeria.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday in Abuja by the FRSC corps marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and the director-general of Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Bayero Farah.

The agreement seeks to enhance capacity development, professional training and institutional collaboration within the country’s transport sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the corps marshal described the partnership as a defining moment in Nigeria’s road transport sector, saying it reflects the commitment of both institutions to building a safer, smarter and more efficient transportation system.

He explained that the collaboration would deepen cooperation in specialised training, research, technology development, driver education, knowledge exchange and human capital development.

The corps marshal said although FRSC and NITT have maintained a longstanding working relationship, the formalisation of their partnership through the MoU marks the beginning of a new phase of innovation and institutional excellence.

He said the agreement would strengthen research capabilities, modernise driver training centres, expand ICT-driven learning and produce globally competitive transport professionals capable of addressing emerging mobility and road safety challenges.

In his remarks, Farah commended the FRSC leadership for its commitment throughout the negotiation process, noting that the Corps’ support was instrumental to the successful conclusion of the agreement.

He said the primary objective of the partnership is to align transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria with global best practices, thereby producing world-class manpower to drive sustainable national development.
