A coalition of youths organisations, Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council Worldwide (NENYLCW) has rubbished a viral video linking former Governor Abdulazeez Yari of Zamfara State to smuggling of gold bars worth billions in Kano State.
This comes amid speculative reports linking Yari to a gold consignment reportedly intercepted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Malam Aminu International Airport in Kano (MAKIA).
However, in a statement issued on Friday, the Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders described the viral videos as a childish fabrication that is senseless.
In a statement signed by the President General, Comrade Terry Obieh and the Deputy Comrade Muhammad Hamisu Dass they said the report stemmed from poorly scripted work by content creators and desperate politicians, noting that after taking time to analyze the video in circulation, there was no doubt that it should be consigned to dustbin.
According to him, “We have taken our time to watch the couple of videos in circulation and there is no doubt that they are handiwork of mischief makers. The videos are more or less poorly scripted content, fabricated by those who stop at nothing while playing destructive politics.
“How low could people go all in the name of politics? Just in the name of getting at people they consider political opponents.
“His Excellency Senator Yari is a decent man who has maintained a clean record in office, and any effort to dent those records would amount to nothing.
“It is also on record that he has remained a firm supporter of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and one of its pillars in Northern Nigeria.
“Suffice it to say that this is part of the agenda to whittle down his influence and diminish the support for Mr President, a situation that has been a pattern within that political corridor.”
The group, while urging the members of the public to disregard such tactics, urged security agencies to fish out those behind “the fake report.”
“If people are not taught lessons, fake news will continue to cause great damage to the country,” the group further stated, urging a detailed and transparent investigation.
