Lekki Port Revenue Rises 28.85% To N408.87bn In H1

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Lagos Free Trade Zone Command recorded N408.87 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, representing a 28.85 per cent increase over the corresponding period of 2025, driven by increased activities at the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Free Trade Zones.

Speaking at the Command’s 2026 Half-Year Media Briefing in Lagos, the Customs Area Controller, Compt. Hauwa Abubakar disclosed that the Command generated N408.87 billion between January and June 2026, compared with N317.32 billion collected in the same period last year. The performance represents an increase of N91.55 billion year-on-year.

Compt. Abubakar also announced that the Command achieved its highest monthly revenue collection since inception in June 2026, generating N87.10 billion during the month.

According to her, the record performance reflects the growing volume of trade through Lekki Port and the Free Trade Zones, as well as rising investor confidence in the facilities under the Command’s jurisdiction.

She attributed the strong revenue growth to deliberate measures aimed at strengthening compliance with customs regulations, improving operational efficiency and deepening engagement with stakeholders.

The Controller said continuous dialogue and collaboration with investors, importers, exporters and licensed customs agents had encouraged voluntary compliance with customs laws while facilitating legitimate trade and protecting government revenue.

She added that the commitment, professionalism and integrity of officers of the Command had further enhanced operational efficiency and boosted the confidence of the trading community in the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Customs chief commended the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for providing the strategic direction that has strengthened revenue generation and trade facilitation across Customs commands nationwide.

She also acknowledged the support of sister security and regulatory agencies, describing inter-agency collaboration as vital to improving security and facilitating seamless trade at the port and Free Trade Zones.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to trade facilitation, the Controller assured stakeholders that it would continue to provide an enabling environment for legitimate business through transparent and efficient customs processes while ensuring compliance with extant laws and regulations.

She expressed confidence that the Command would build on its first-half performance in the second half of the year by improving service delivery and exceeding its revenue targets without compromising its statutory responsibilities.
