The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has arrested 89 drivers for various number plate violations during a statewide enforcement operation.

The Command said the exercise followed a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, targeting vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured number plates.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to intensify enforcement across the state.

“The coordinated operations led to the interception of 89 vehicles and their drivers found in violation of the law,” the statement read.

The Command explained that the operation forms part of intelligence-led policing aimed at preventing criminals from using improperly registered vehicles to commit crimes and evade security agencies.

It added that appropriate administrative and legal actions, including prosecution where necessary, have been initiated against the offenders.

The police said the enforcement exercise would continue to improve vehicle traceability and aid criminal investigations.

Motorists were urged to comply with vehicle registration laws, while residents were advised to board commercial vehicles only at designated parks, avoid unbranded vehicles and always share their travel details with trusted persons.
