Borno State Police Command yesterday said it recorded 102 rape cases out of 636 different cases recorded in the state in the past one year.

The state’s commissioner of police, CP Abdu Umar, disclosed this in Maiduguri while narrating the achievements recorded by the command during the year under review.

He said most obvious challenges faced in the state are the activities of Boko Haram terrorists, kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, culpable homicide, drugs dealings among others, noting that all these challenges are not insurmountable by the command.

He said the challenges were tackled due to the review of the command’s operational strategies and acquisition of new specialised operational assets.

“Although the command has been showcasing its achievement to the public from time to time, below is the yearly review of the total achievement recorded.

“Over 636 cases have been recorded within the year under review which are 102 cases of rape, 200 cases of terrorism, 57 cases of culpable homicide , 22 cases of armed robbery, 30 cases of kidnapping, cases of vandalization, cases of drugs,138 cases of theft.”

He added that all the cases have been charged to court. Abdu used the medium to call on the political actors to play by the rule of the game, warning that the command is always on its toe to ensure the arrest and prosecution of deviants as the 2023 election is fast approaching.
