The company bagged the award at the inaugural edition of the Nigeria Power Sector Awards which held in Abuja last month.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after receiving the award plaque, the group managing director/CEO, of Mojec International Limited, Ms. Chantelle Abdul stated that the award would spur the company into doing more for the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

Abdul noted that the company’s history of firsts is hinged on its innovative drive, which has seen it deliver consistently on its corporate mantra of “building a world of possibilities.”

“Driven by this vision, Mojec has grown over the years to become the largest manufacturer, distributor, installer of smart metering, power generation and energy solutions services provider in Sub-Saharan Africa.

“No single company has contributed largely to closing the metering gap in Nigeria as Mojec has done. Today, Mojec has produced and installed over one million smart meters in Nigeria with footprints in nine out of the 11 power distribution companies (DisCos) across the country.” she stated.

The Mojec GMD who also leads the Board of Trustees of the Meter Manufacturers and Assemblers Association of Nigeria (MMAAN) added, “To mitigate challenges bedeviling the power sector in Nigeria, Mojec has intensified efforts towards ensuring a level of stability in the power sector. Our priority has been not just to see Nigerians have access to electricity, but also pay for what they consume only.”

Highpoints of the event included a keynote address by the governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, presentation of lifetime achievement awards and special awards to deserving Nigerians, a fireside chat on the private sector perspective for the development of a NESI that could deliver reliable and stable electricity to all Nigerians as well as a cocktail event.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to former President Olusegun Obasanjo; governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele; former minister of power and founder, Geometric Power Limited/Aba Power IPP, Prof. Barth Nnaji; and executive director, Sahara Energy Group, Mr., Kola Adesina.

Other special awards category include a posthumous award to the late Engr. Joseph Oyeyani Makoju, former chief executive officer, of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and Special Adviser on Power to three presidents; Leadership and Excellence Award in the Power Sector to Engr. Ahmad Zakari, the Special Adviser to the President on Infrastructure, and Trailblazer Award in the Power Sector to the minister of power, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu.

Sponsored by New Hampshire Capital Ltd, an energy investment and advisory company and supported by Mojec International Limited, the annual event was organised by the NPS Awards Limited and brought together key stakeholders in the power sector, National Assembly, state governors, chief executives of banks and financial institutions, private equity infrastructure funds, and investors in power generation companies and electricity distribution companies, amongst other dignitaries.
