The recent farmers/herders crisis in Pangri community, Bali local government area of Taraba State, claimed the life of one person and while 10 others were injured.

The police command’s spokesperson, ASP Victor Mshelizah, who confirmed the incident, said the situation had been brought under control, while efforts were ongoing to restore lasting peace in the affected community.

Mshelizah said the violence was triggered by a dispute after a farmer reported to the police that some herders grazed on his farmland.

He said security operatives responded to the complaint, while dialogue involving relevant stakeholders was being pursued to prevent further violence.

He added that the command had commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash and to ensure that those found culpable were brought to justice.

The district head of Pangri, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Pangri, said the violence broke out on Sunday after the farmer lodged the complaint with the police.
