The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country and called on the Federal Government to be more proactive in protecting lives and property.

The National Chairman of the party, Dr. Agbo Major, made the call on Wednesday during a Press Conference in Abuja.

He said the continued killings, raids and destruction of communities across Nigeria were unacceptable and demanded urgent attention from security agencies.

“For us, every life means so much to us because we place serious premium on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. The primary responsibility of every government is to protect the lives and properties of its citizens,” he said

He described the security challenges as “hydra-headed,” alleging possible involvement or support from key government functionaries, which he said had complicated efforts to address the crisis.

The NNPP leader urged the government to strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure security agencies work together to fish out those aiding criminal activities.

“What is important to us is that killing must stop. Nigerians must be able to move freely across from one state to the other,” he added.

He noted that insecurity had also affected mobility, stressing that many Nigerians could no longer afford air travel and were therefore trapped by unsafe roads.

“We will only ask the sitting government to be more proactive in intelligence gathering. If there are people who are aiding and abetting all of this, they should look inward and see how they can be fished out,” he stated.

Major also announced that the party had concluded the upload of its recognised National Working Committee on the INEC portal and had commenced uploading of candidates for the 2027 general elections.

He appealed to INEC to grant a short extension to enable the party to meet up with the timetable, blaming initial delays on the commission’s late compliance with court orders.

Major said the party had restored its 2022 constitution and manifesto and would, in the coming weeks, convene an expanded NEC meeting to ratify key decisions ahead of the elections.
