Chelsea have announced the signing of Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda for £40 million, with the 19-year-old Portugal under-21 international signing an eight-year contract.
Quenda becomes the second arrival under new manager Xabi Alonso, following £42m full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta.
The deal was originally agreed in March 2025 during Enzo Maresca’s tenure, though Quenda has spent the week training at Chelsea’s Cobham base ahead of Alonso’s first session Thursday.
Capable of playing as a winger, attacking midfielder or wing-back, Quenda made 86 appearances for Sporting – including 16 in the Champions League – after breaking through under former manager Ruben Amorim.
“I’m excited to work with my team-mates and the manager,” Quenda said.
“I want to be someone known for having the right mentality to help my team-mates and do my best for the club to win trophies.”
Chelsea have also held talks for Rayo Vallecano full-back Pep Chavarria and explored a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, while a bid for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka failed.
Valentin Barco is set to join from Strasbourg as the club strengthens midfield.
Departures include Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, Tyrique George to Everton, and Andrey Santos to Manchester United in a £50m deal.
Chelsea also announced 19-year-old Jesse Derry has signed a new six-year contract and will join Sporting on loan.
