The Presidency has criticised the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of political inconsistency and questioning his ability to lead Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

Presidential spokesman and Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks during an interview on The Morayo Show hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown.

Bwala criticised Obi’s recent move to the NDC, saying the former Anambra State governor’s history of changing political parties raises concerns about his leadership credentials.

The presidential aide also took a swipe at opposition figures seeking to build a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the alliance as one driven by politicians who lack consistency.

“Their conspiracy was exposed most recently when the people they are supporting suddenly decided to form what they call one opposition and within the space of three months, they will have to change three times minimum,” Bwala said.

Referring specifically to Obi, Bwala alleged that the former governor had developed a pattern of switching political platforms.

“Their master, Peter Obi’s chequered history is that of changing parties like a table tennis,” he stated.

Bwala further questioned Obi’s preparedness to govern Nigeria, arguing that anyone seeking the nation’s highest office should be capable of resolving internal political disputes rather than leaving political parties whenever crises emerge.

“The man who said he has a mission to lead Nigeria have not been able to answer a basic question,” Bwala declared.

He added:

“The one who wants to govern Nigeria has not been able to answer the question why he runs away when he sees a crisis in a party. Anybody who wants to govern a country must be able to face crisis.”
