Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has warned the newly sworn-in local government caretaker chairmen in the state to avoid mismanagement of financial resources.
The appointment of the caretaker chairmen followed the expiration of the tenure of the former elected council chairmen about three months ago.
The governor spoke in Bauchi yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony of the new chairmen.
He said the local governments were supposed to be working to better the lives of the people in rural communities, adding that this goal cannot be achieved through embezzlement of the little resources accruing to the local governments.
“You must learn to live above board and avoid anything capable of tarnishing the image of the government,” he said.
The governor said local government chairmen must work hard to improve the internally generated revenue of their areas to complement the federal allocation for better performance and service delivery.
He asked the chairmen to work with security agencies in their domain to ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
He directed the caretaker chairmen to allow free political spaces for the opposition to operate in line within the tenets of democracy.
