World Population Day: Remi Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Obtain NIN

First lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians yet to register for the National Identity Number (NIN) to do so, saying accurate population data is essential for effective national planning and the delivery of critical public services.

In a message to commemorate the 2026 World Population Day on Saturday, the first lady said the country must continue investing in its people as its population grows, with particular attention to women and young people.

She said the observance of World Population Day provides an opportunity to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to building a future where every citizen has access to quality healthcare, education and opportunities to realise their full potential.

“Today, on World Population Day 2026, I join the global community in support of our commitment to building a future where every individual, especially women and young people, have access to quality healthcare, education, and opportunities to reach their full potential,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s growing population makes it imperative to increase investment in human capital to achieve sustainable development.

“As Nigeria’s population continues to grow, we must increase investment in our greatest asset, our people. Through collective action, we can empower families, promote healthy lives, support our youth, and ensure sustainable development for generations to come,” she stated.

The First Lady also stressed the importance of obtaining the National Identity Number, describing it as a critical tool for generating accurate population data that would enable government at all levels to plan effectively.

“I encourage every Nigerian to register and obtain a National Identity Number (NIN), if they have not done so. Accurate population data will enable the government to plan effectively and provide essential services for Nigeria’s growing population,” she said.

She wished Nigerians a happy World Population Day and urged continued collective efforts toward building a healthier and more prosperous nation.
