Popular food critic and content creator Opeyemi Famakin has opened up about his journey before fame, saying he genuinely enjoyed every 9-to-5 job he held and remains grateful for the lessons they taught him.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Famakin revealed that, contrary to what many assume, working a regular job was never the problem. Instead, he said his biggest challenge was the daily commute.

“I genuinely enjoyed all my 9-5s, and I learnt a lot. The only thing I disliked about 9-to-5 was commuting to work by bus. It’s the only thing as an adult that made me depressed,” he wrote.
The food critic added that apart from the exhausting commute, he looks back on his corporate career with gratitude, crediting it for shaping the person he is today.
Famakin also took a moment to acknowledge one of the people who had the greatest impact on his career, his former boss at Green News Media.
“I forgot to add my job as a journalist at Green News Media. The CEO there was easily my best boss and, of all my bosses, I think he was the one who believed in me the most,” he said.
His reflections have resonated with many Nigerians online, especially young professionals navigating demanding work schedules and long commutes. Many praised the content creator for reminding people that every stage of life, no matter how difficult, can become a stepping stone to greater opportunities.
For many followers, Famakin’s story is a refreshing reminder that success is often built on humble beginnings, supportive mentors and the resilience to keep showing up, even when the journey to work feels like the hardest part of the day.
