The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has commended the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) for establishing the Northern Security Trust Fund and committing N1 billion monthly and inaugurating its management board to tackle insecurity in the region.

The association described the initiative as a major step toward improving security and reviving farming activities across Northern Nigeria.

The AFAN national president, Muhammad Magaji Gettado, in a statement, described the governors’ decision to contribute N1billion monthly to the fund as a bold demonstration of their commitment to addressing the region’s worsening security challenges.

He said the composition of the fund’s management board, which it described as individuals with integrity and proven track records, would inspire confidence in the transparent and accountable management of the resources.

According to AFAN, improved security remains critical to restoring farming activities in communities affected by banditry, kidnappings and other forms of violence that have disrupted agricultural production across the North.

Gettado expressed optimism that the initiative would help create a safer environment for farmers to return to their fields, increase food production, stabilise food prices and strengthen national food security.

He also urged its members, cooperative societies and farmers across the Northern states to support the initiative by working closely with security agencies and providing credible information that could assist efforts to combat insecurity.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with governments and other stakeholders to promote a peaceful environment capable of driving agricultural productivity and achieving food self-sufficiency in Nigeria.
