Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned Atlético Madrid that the club’s offer for Argentine striker Julián Álvarez will not remain on the table indefinitely.

Speaking in Dallas ahead of Spain’s FIFA World Cup semi-final against France, Laporta confirmed Barcelona remain determined to sign the 26-year-old but ruled out becoming involved in a bidding war.

“We’ve made a substantial offer, but it isn’t unlimited,” Laporta said.

“We submitted the offer because he is a player admired by both our sporting department and the coach. However, its validity is limited, and we will announce in due course how long it will remain on the table.”

Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 for an initial €75 million and remains under contract until 2030.

The Argentine forward has reportedly informed Atlético officials of his desire to leave, although the Spanish club has so far resisted interest from several European giants, including Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. Atlético also rejected a reported €150 million bid from Real Madrid last month.

Laporta insisted Barcelona would not be pressured into increasing their offer.

“We’re not going to dance to anyone else’s tune—we’ll set the pace,” he said, revealing he had held positive discussions with Atlético chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil over the proposed transfer.

The Barcelona president also confirmed that Germany international Karim Adeyemi is on the verge of joining the club from Borussia Dortmund following the arrival of England winger Anthony Gordon earlier this summer.

“We’re really excited about Adeyemi. He’s quick, dangerous and a player we’ve admired for a long time,” Laporta said.

Laporta also dismissed speculation linking Brazilian winger Raphinha with a move to Saudi Arabia.

“Raphinha is definitely staying. He’s a key player for us,” he said.

He also played down reports linking Spain international Ferran Torres with Paris Saint-Germain, insisting the forward remains part of Barcelona’s plans.

Laporta concluded by praising former Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, whose eight goals and two assists have inspired Argentina to the World Cup semi-finals.

“Messi has been extraordinary. His talent continues to shine, and Argentina are fortunate to have a player who always lifts the team,” he said.
