The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the death of his wife, 20, in Agyaragu, Obi local government area, during a domestic dispute.

The suspect, identified as Musbawu Amodu, was taken into custody on Sunday, July 12, 2026, after a complaint was lodged at the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m.

The police said, in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, that the report alleged that Amodu assaulted his wife, leading to her death.

According to the police, officers from the division responded immediately, evacuated the victim to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for examination and preservation, and arrested the suspect at the scene.

The police said that during interrogation, Amodu allegedly confessed to the act.

Nansel said Amodu told investigators that he became angry after his wife refused to prepare his food, and an argument that followed escalated into a physical altercation that resulted in her death. He reportedly expressed remorse for his actions.

The couple had been married for six years and had two children — a boy and a girl — who are now left without their mother.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a “thorough, discreet, and expedited investigation.”

The commissioner assured the public that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
