Spain have taken a commanding 2-0 lead over France in their FIFA World Cup semi-final after Pedro Porro struck in the 58th minute to put the European champions firmly in control.
Porro finished clinically after being set up by Dani Olmo, capping another flowing Spanish attack to leave the tournament favourites with a mountain to climb.
Spain had gone into the interval leading 1-0 courtesy of Mikel Oyarzabal’s 22nd-minute penalty and have continued to dominate proceedings after the break with composed possession and incisive attacking play.
France, who have struggled to break down Spain’s organised defence, have pushed forward in search of a route back into the contest, but Luis de la Fuente’s side remain on course for a place in the World Cup final if they can protect their two-goal advantage.
