A 34-year-old philanthropist from Okpanam in Oshimili North local government area of Delta State, Mr Charles Obiodogwu has donated a two-bedroom bungalow worth over N20 million to a widow, Mrs Helen Nwaedozie.

The widow lost her husband to unknown assailants in defence of Okpanam town as a vigilante chairman. The philanthropist also gave scholarship up to university level to the son of the deceased vigilante chairman and the twin children of late Festus Monye who was equally killed as a vigilante member in Okpanam community.

Obiodogwu made the donation at an august gathering for the handover of the keys of the magnificent bungalow built on a piece of land where the body of the slain vigilante chairman was laid to rest in Okpanam to Mrs Nwaedozie.

The donor said that he was propelled to provide the bungalow when he had an encounter with two children of the deceased who came to a site where he was building a structure.

According to him, the children who were below 15 years of age, told him that they were at the site to render help to the builders.

Obiodogwu added that at the end of the day, one of the children, Master Favour Nwaedozie confided in him that their mother was not only sick but homeless.

The philanthropist said that he was touched by the narrative of the children and decided to send some persons to confirm the authenticity of the boy’s story before embarking on the project.

While commiserating with the family on the death of their breadwinner, Late Emeka Nwaedozie, he said his philosophy about life was to give love and care to those in need in line with biblical injunction to love others like ourselves.

He said he would through the Ashinze Charles Obiodogwu Foundation, empower over 500 widows and youths this yuletide, affirming that in the past, roads were constructed for communities, scholarship floated for indigent students coupled with human capital development and empowerment.

The donor, therefore, called on others in well placed positions to see giving as a lifestyle so as to make the society a better place for all.

Responding after receiving keys to the bungalow, the highly elated beneficiary, Helen who expressed shock at the quality of the two-bedroom bungalow, thanked Obiodogwu for his magnanimity, pointing out that life has never been easy for her and her children since her husband died two years ago.
