Residents of Inkil community in Bauchi local government area have expressed appreciation to the Wunti Alkhair Foundation following the commissioning of a solar-powered water supply scheme that has ended years of acute water scarcity in the area.
The project consists of 10 strategically located water points across the community, providing the residents with easy access to clean and potable water. The intervention is expected to improve public health, sanitation and the overall wellbeing of the people by reducing dependence on unsafe and unreliable water sources.
During the ceremony yesterday, the chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Bala Wunti, said the project reflected the group’s commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities through sustainable development initiatives.
Represented by the programmes manager, Mustapha Ango, he assured the residents that the foundation would continue to implement similar projects to address critical social and infrastructural challenges in underserved communities across Bauchi State.
According to the foundation, the intervention was initiated following repeated complaints from the residents of lack of access to safe drinking water. It noted that the provision of reliable water infrastructure is essential to promoting better health, improved sanitation and sustainable community development.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Malam Ladan Garba, Marafan Inkil, described the project as a timely intervention that has addressed a long-standing challenge affecting the community.
He said the water scheme has significantly reduced the hardship previously faced by residents, particularly women and children, who often travelled long distances daily in search of water for domestic and other household needs.
Traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, women and youth groups attended the commissioning ceremony and commended the Wunti Alkhair Foundation for the intervention.
They described the project as a major contribution to community development and urged residents to protect and maintain the facilities to ensure they continue to serve both present and future generations.
