Fans of legendary Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler will have an opportunity to pay their final respects next month after her family announced details of her funeral arrangements.
A celebration of life service for the late music icon will take place at Swansea Minster, St Mary’s Church, in Wales on August 17. Before the service, Tyler’s coffin will return to her hometown of Mumbles on August 15, where members of the public have been invited to line Newton Road as the funeral procession passes through.
Following the church service, the procession will also travel through Skewen, the village where the singer spent her childhood before rising to international fame, ahead of a private family ceremony.
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, died on July 8 at the age of 75 while receiving treatment in Portugal for an illness. Her family described her as a generous artist whose music touched generations of fans around the world.
Best known for timeless hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, It’s a Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero, Tyler enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades. Her powerful voice and unforgettable performances earned her worldwide acclaim, while her songs remain favourites on radio, film soundtracks and karaoke playlists.
The family has requested donations to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru in lieu of flowers.
