Police Trust Fund Empowers Over 2,000 Wives Of Junior Officers With Start-Up Kits 

The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), on Monday launched its maiden skills acquisition and empowerment programme for spouses of junior police officers, in a move aimed at strengthening police families, improving household incomes and enhancing the morale of serving officers.

The initiative, which involves donation of startup kits for different handwork and businesses, was unveiled at the M.D. Abubakar Police Barracks, Dei-Dei, Abuja and targets over 2,000 beneficiaries across all states of the federation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the executive secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu said the initiative was designed to complement the fund’s ongoing investments in police training, infrastructure and operational support by addressing the economic wellbeing of officers’ families.

According to him, while police officers dedicate their lives to protecting Nigerians under difficult conditions, their spouses equally deserve recognition and support for the sacrifices they make behind the scenes.

“Today, as we present these start-up packs, we are not merely distributing equipment. We are investing in opportunities, promoting self-reliance and creating pathways for lasting economic independence,” Sheidu said.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to transform the vocational training and start-up kits into thriving businesses that would improve household livelihoods and inspire others within their communities.

Sheidu reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to implementing programmes that improve the welfare of police personnel and their families through sustained collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and POWA.

While speaking, the inspector-general of police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu described the programme as a strategic investment in the welfare and resilience of police families, stressing that the success of policing depends not only on officers but also on the support they receive from their families.

“Today, we are not merely distributing empowerment items or providing economic opportunities; we are making a meaningful investment in the stability, resilience and wellbeing of police families,” the IGP said.

He urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by using the skills and start-up resources to build sustainable businesses capable of providing long-term financial security for their families.

The IGP also commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for initiating the programme, saying it demonstrates a clear understanding that stronger police families ultimately translate into a stronger Police Force.

Also speaking, the national president of POWA, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, described the programme as a landmark intervention that extends beyond vocational training to restoring hope and creating sustainable livelihoods for police families.

She commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for initiating the empowerment scheme, noting that supporting police families is a strategic investment in the morale, professionalism and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

Representative of the minister of police affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam said the empowerment will enhance police activities, increase self reliance, contribute to more stable environment and urged the beneficiaries to grab the opportunity and make good use of it to enhance their livelihood.
