Davido Never Gave Me One Naira, Didn’t Fund My NGO” – VDM

Controversial Nigerian social media personality Martyn Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has debunked long-standing public claims that music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, contributed financially to his career or non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The duo, who publicly bonded in October 2023 after Davido invited the influencer to Lagos State, have reportedly suffered a fallout nearly three years into their relationship.

In a video posted on his social media page, VeryDarkMan addressed the public perception that the Afrobeat icon funded his rise, explaining that earlier claims of royal treatment were made purely for entertainment.

He stated that he personally funded his trip to Lagos at the time and never received financial assistance or donations from the singer for his NGO.

“Any time I talk about something concerning Davido, people always say, ‘After all what Davido has done for you. Davido flew you to Lagos, Davido has contributed to your NGO,’ and all those types of things. Today, let me just clear the air,” he stated.

“When I went to Lagos to meet Davido, I paid for my own flight ticket and I paid for the hotel where I lodged. We just allowed the narrative to slide for entertainment purposes. People claim Davido contributed to my NGO; that is not true. I never asked him for money. He was the one who promised to do something, but I never demanded it. Ask David if I have ever collected N1,000 from him since he met me,” he added.
