Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, stopped a newly sworn-in commissioner, Hon. Moses Ogodo, from kneeling before him during his inauguration into the State Executive Council, insisting that public office is about service rather than personal loyalty.

The emotional moment unfolded at the Government House in Asaba shortly after Ogodo took the oath of office. Overcome with emotion, the new commissioner broke down in tears and moved to kneel before the governor in appreciation for his appointment.

Governor Oborevwori immediately intervened, asking him to remain standing.

“Don’t kneel down for me. Stand up. We are here to serve Deltans together,” the governor said.

His remarks drew applause from government officials, political appointees and other guests who witnessed the swearing-in ceremony.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ossai Ovie Success, later shared details of the incident in a post on Tuesday, describing it as a touching moment marked by “tears of joy.

“It was a moment of tears of joy at the Government House, Asaba, as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori swore in Hon. Moses Ogodo as Commissioner,” Ossai wrote.

According to him, the atmosphere became emotional when Ogodo attempted to kneel before the governor after taking the oath of office.

“The atmosphere became emotional when the new Commissioner moved to kneel down in appreciation to the Governor after taking the oath of office.

“But Governor Oborevwori quickly stopped him, saying: ‘Don’t kneel down for me. Stand up. We are here to serve Deltans together.'”

Ossai said the governor’s response underscored his humility and commitment to servant leadership.

“That’s leadership. That’s humility. That’s M.O.R.E Agenda in action,” he added.

A video accompanying the post showed the visibly emotional commissioner wiping away tears before approaching the governor. Oborevwori gestured for him to remain standing, after which the two exchanged a handshake as applause erupted from the audience.
