Former Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has expressed deep emotional toll following the postponement of her deportation ruling by the Cape Town Regional Court to August 19.

The court session, which resumed on Monday, July 20, 2026, focused on arguments surrounding her residency status in South Africa. Prosecutors urged the court to detain Adetshina pending deportation, claiming she is an undocumented foreign national who entered the country using invalid documentation while retaining a South African passport.

However, her defence team rejected the claims, arguing that she was born in South Africa and has no significant ties to Nigeria. They further stated that the Department of Home Affairs failed to carry out a fair investigation before invalidating her identity documents, adding that a separate legal challenge regarding her citizenship is already before the High Court.

Presiding Magistrate Reema Khorana urged both parties to consider an out-of-court settlement, but after no agreement was reached, she reserved judgment on the detention and deportation order until August 19.

“Exhausted – Yes, Burnt out – Yes, Depressed – Yes, Will I give up, No,” she wrote.
