Nigeria international Frank Onyeka has expressed his delight after completing a permanent move to Coventry City, ending months of speculation over his future following a successful loan spell with the newly promoted Premier League club.

The defensive midfielder joined the Sky Blues from Brentford during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal that included an obligation to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

That clause has now been activated, with Onyeka committing his future to Frank Lampard’s side after playing a key role in Coventry’s return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old made an immediate impact at the Coventry Building Society Arena, featuring in 14 Championship matches, scoring once and helping the club secure promotion to the top flight.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Onyeka said he felt at home from the moment he arrived at the club.

“It’s really nice. From the first day I came in I felt the warmth of the people and the club,” Onyeka said.

“I just felt this was the right place for me. The players and everyone around the club made me feel really comfortable and I settled in quickly, which is important for any player joining a new team.

“I’ve been here for the last five or six months and I feel really settled. The support I received from the fans from day one was incredible, and I truly appreciate the way they welcomed me.”

Reflecting on the campaign, Onyeka said he had joined Coventry with two objectives—to win promotion and lift the Championship title—and was delighted to have achieved both.

“I came here with two goals: to get promoted to the Premier League and to win the Championship,” he said.

“Achieving those goals is a beautiful feeling, and I’m proud to have played my part in Coventry’s success. It’s an honour to be part of the club’s history.”

The former Brentford midfielder also revealed that the prospect of regular first-team football played a major role in his decision to join Coventry.

“Another reason for coming here was to play consistently. I wanted to get into the team, play as many minutes as possible and use my experience to help the squad.”

With his permanent move now completed, Onyeka is expected to remain a key figure in Lampard’s midfield as Coventry prepare for life back in the Premier League.

The club is yet to disclose the length of the Nigerian’s contract, but his signing is seen as an important step in strengthening the squad ahead of the new top-flight campaign.
