Over 5,000 residents of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency are targeted for the 2026 annual free medical outreach of former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, as she sustains the humanitarian initiative for the 19th consecutive year.

The eight-day medical programme, which begins today at Isuikwuato General Hospital, will move to Madam Susan Mba Memorial Health Centre, Ugwuodo Umuaku Isuochi, Umunneochi local government area, where it will end on 30 July.

A statement issued by Onyejeocha’s media office in Abuja yesterday described the outreach as 19 years of uninterrupted commitment to providing quality healthcare to the people, noting that beneficiaries would receive comprehensive secondary and tertiary medical services at no cost.

The services include free medical consultations, cataract and other eye surgeries, hernia and hydrocele operations, fibroid and pile surgeries, appendicitis procedures, caesarean sections, cervical cancer screening, laboratory and optical services, free medications, and food support for patients undergoing surgery.

According to the statement, although Nigeria has made significant progress in primary healthcare, many life-saving specialised treatments remain beyond the reach of ordinary citizens because of their high cost and limited availability of specialists and medical facilities.

It noted that the annual outreach has, over the years, bridged that gap by providing free surgery, medications and post-operative care for thousands of indigent residents. “The sustenance of this laudable programme for this length of time can only be described as ‘a covenant being kept’,” the statement stressed, adding that the initiative has restored health, renewed hope and transformed countless lives across the constituency. It reaffirmed Onyejeocha’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, stressing that “a healthy constituency is a wealthy constituency,” and describing the minister as “an intentional leader.”
