Adeleke Commissions First Phase of Ila-Orangun Dual Carriageway

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commissioned the first phase of the 10-kilometre Ila-Orangun township dual carriageway, describing the project as a major boost to economic activities and infrastructure development in the ancient town.

A statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the completed phase covers 3.5 kilometres of the road project, which is being executed in three phases.

Speaking at the inauguration, Adeleke said the dual carriageway would enhance commerce, improve mobility, strengthen road safety and stimulate investment in Ila-Orangun and neighbouring communities.

He noted that the project forms part of his administration’s broader commitment to extending development to grassroots communities through the construction of roads, markets and healthcare facilities.

“The dual carriageway is more than a road; it is a lifeline for commerce, mobility and safety for the people. This project, alongside other township roads, markets and health facilities, shows that this administration believes development must reach the grassroots.

“Ila is a historic town; it is a centre of learning, culture and commerce. With this dualised road, we are opening Ila to more investment, easier movement of farm produce and better access to schools, hospitals and the palace,” the governor said.

Adeleke added that the road also serves as a key link to surrounding communities, stressing that his administration is investing in intercity roads to improve connectivity across Osun State.

He disclosed that, in addition to the dual carriageway, more than seven kilometres of intracity roads have been completed in Ila-Orangun under his administration.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Tokunbo Salam, commended the governor for meeting the project timeline, noting that the first phase was delivered within the 12 months earlier approved.

According to Salam, the administration’s infrastructure drive has become one of the defining achievements of the current government.

Also speaking, the Director of Research and Planning in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Olalekan Salami, said the governor approved a 10-kilometre dual carriageway to be executed in three phases.

He explained that the first and second phases each cover 3.5 kilometres, while the final phase will span three kilometres.

Salami said the completed section was delivered exactly one year after construction began in July 2025, adding that the remaining phases would be completed in line with the administration’s implementation schedule.

He added that the road is expected to provide improved access to the Federal University of Health Sciences and support future urban development in the area.

Adeleke had flagged off construction of the project in July 2025, stating at the time that his administration had completed the reconstruction, rehabilitation and renovation of more than 175 kilometres of roads across Osun State.
