Tyson Fury cruised to a seventh-round stoppage over Mariusz Wach on Friday, keeping his blockbuster showdown with Anthony Joshua on course despite a subdued setting that drew fewer than 1,500 fans.
The 37-year-old heavyweight controlled every round at the Max Muay Thai Stadium before the 46-year-old Wach retired on his stool ahead of the eighth, handing Fury his 36th professional victory.
The win positions Fury for a long-anticipated all-British unification bout with Joshua, who faces Albanian Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia later Saturday.
“I passed my test tonight,” Fury said. “Let’s see if he can pass his.”
Contrary to speculation that Fury would fly to Jeddah for Joshua’s fight and potentially announce their deal in the ring, the self-styled Gypsy King said he is heading home to the UK.
“I’ve been away six of the last seven months,” he said. “I’m not going to Jeddah—I’m going to my wife and kids. We’ll regroup and hopefully sign the big fight next week.”
Venue uncertainty persists, with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisting the contract mandates the UK, while industry sources suggest a U.S. site is more likely.
The bout, which aired on no live TV or radio, will appear in the third series of Netflix’s At Home With The Furys.
