Nigerian music star, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has become the first Nigerian artist to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.

The singer announced the milestone in a post on his verified X account, describing the event as a historic achievement.

According to D’banj, he participated in the ceremony as part of activities commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.

Sharing photographs from the event, the Fall in Love crooner said it was an honour to be part of the celebration alongside prominent global figures.

“On Wednesday 22nd of July, history was made. I was invited to the London Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell as we celebrate the 125 years of the Royal African Society.

“Honored to have shared the same platform with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, Ex-President of Afreximbank and Second Patron of the Royal African Society, Prof. Benedict Oramah,” he wrote.

The London Stock Exchange’s Market Open and Market Close ceremonies are held to commemorate major milestones, listings and anniversaries involving organisations, companies and institutions.

The Royal African Society, established in 1901, is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest organisations dedicated to promoting knowledge, dialogue and engagement with Africa through culture, education, business and public policy.
