D’banj Makes History as First Nigerian Artist to Ring London Stock Exchange Closing Bell

Nigerian music star Oladapo Oyebanjo, better known as D’banj, has made history as the first Nigerian artist to ring the closing bell at the London Stock Exchange.

The singer shared the milestone with fans on Friday via his verified X account, revealing that he was invited to take part in the ceremony as part of events commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Royal African Society in London.

Describing the occasion as a memorable moment, D’banj posted photos from the event and expressed his appreciation for the honour.

“On Wednesday 22nd of July, History was made. I was invited to the London Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell as we celebrated the Royal African Society’s 125th anniversary.

The London Stock Exchange’s Market Open and Market Close ceremonies are held to recognise major milestones, anniversaries, company listings and other significant achievements by organisations and institutions.

Founded in 1901, the Royal African Society is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest organisations focused on promoting greater understanding of Africa through culture, education, public policy and business engagement.
