Dignitaries, including Chief Bode George, former Lagos State deputy governor and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Koforola Akerele-Bucknor, the party’s state leadership, friends and associates of the late politician, Engr. Funsho Williams, have paid glowing tributes to the deceased.

The late Williams, who was the governorship candidate of the party in 2003, was murdered on 27th July, 2006, by unknown assailants.

In his tribute at the 20th remembrance anniversary of the deceased, held yesterday at St. Dominic’s Church, Yaba, Lagos State, Bode George, a former deputy national chairman of the party, described the deceased as an epitome of civility and an icon.

He recalled the tragic event, “Twenty years is a long time, but it looks like yesterday. The pain of his loss is still there. You know we were in government at the national level then, I could remember the President calling me around 7 am that I had to go to Lagos because Funsho had been murdered. We flew to Lagos, and I went straight to his house. I saw him lying lifeless. I can’t ever forget the sight.”

Also a politician, Dr Funsho Doherty, described late Williams as a man with a shining legacy worthy of emulation.

He said, “The late Funsho Williams was a man with a shining legacy across the state and the nation. He was a man we all looked forward to. He was someone we tried to emulate.”

Lagos State factional Chairman of the party, Barr. Dr Amos Fawole described the deceased as a truly distinguished gentleman, an accomplished engineer, and a true Omoluabi Eko.

His vision for a greater Lagos was built on competence, integrity, inclusiveness, and genuine love for humanity.”

He also urged Lagosians and Nigerians to keep alive the noble values that defined Engr. Funsho Williams’ life, integrity, compassion, sacrifice, excellence, and an unyielding commitment to the common good.
