Joint security forces in Niger State have rescued 13 people abducted by roving bandits in the state, the state commissioner for internal security and humanitarian affairs, Emmanuel Umar, said yesterday in Minna.

He said the feat was in furtherance of the ongoing security clearance operation against banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes in the state.

The commissioner added that the success followed a tip-off that some roving bandits were sighted around the Bonus, Gwalu, and Chimbi areas of Gurara and Paikoro LGAs.

Umar stated; “Consequently, joint security forces raided the areas, and during the raid, the criminals were routed in a gun battle.

“In the course of this, the majority of the hoodlums scampered for safety, while some of them escaped with bullet injuries and 13 kidnapped victims that were abducted from different locations and held captives were abandoned and rescued by security forces in Gurara.”

He said nine of those rescued were abducted from Maje Daji via Dobi Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

He further said the four other victims were abducted from Gwalu village via Kafin-koro in Paikoro LGA of Niger State.

The commissioner disclosed that all victims were taken to a government medical facility for checks and had been reunited with their families.

He noted that Governor Abubakar Sani Bello expressed admiration for the gallantry of the security forces and charged them not to relent in their effort until they rout out all terrorists.
