The new leadership of Mbula Development Association in Adamawa State has revealed its agricultural diversification plan to empower youths in exploring agricultural potentials of the area.

President of the association, Michael Balasom, told LEADERSHIP in Yola yesterday that the group was currently seeking to deepen irrigation use for dry season farming to get Mbula Kingdom’s vast arable lands and get the youth productively engaged.

“Mbula land is vast and you have only to dig down a little to find water gushing out and this is a strong endowment for dry season agriculture,” Balasonm said, adding that his association was encouraged in its plan by the increasing interest recently shown by Mbula youths in dry season irrigation farming.

“I am going to link up with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture where I work to see about getting support, especially with reference to supply of water irrigation pumping machines.

“Our youths will be their out-growers and they will be our off-takers; will produce what they want and they will off-take,” he said.

He added that his association was also in liaison with agric development NGOs as well as big time farmers with who Mbula’s young farmers can be out-growers.
