South Korean music group BTS has declined to submit its music for consideration at the upcoming 69th Grammy Awards following the introduction of a new Asian pop category.

In a joint statement, the group explained that the decision was made to ensure music is appreciated on its merit rather than divided by language or geographic region.

The Recording Academy had recently introduced the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for the 2027 ceremony, a move intended to highlight music from the region, though it faced debate over potential segregation from main awards.
