I said jokingly, “Nasiru knows you’re gullible, that’s why he asked for your help,” I said, not wanting to bother myself over the matter. Why should I care? It’s not as if we were still a clique as we used to be on campus.

Asabe called for our attention, she and Farida were already in the shop and the salesgirl was taking down the purple abaya. We went in to meet them. “I want to buy this abaya, its so pretty. I could wear it for my birthday this year!” Asabe exclaimed excitedly.

We all agreed with her that it was pretty. She headed to the dressing room, while we sat on the sofa in the shop to wait. Suddenly, I wished it was me buying the beautiful yet modest, purple abaya excitedly and without a care in the world. Farida interrupted my thoughts.

“Kai, me I am not interested in buying anything now, my baby is starting kindergarten and I have to save for that,” she said.
