The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, yesterday declared that the private meeting held between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde alongside the two others does not pose a threat to it ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The publicity secretary of Ogun APC, Femi Nuberu, said this while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Makinde, former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had last Sunday, paid a private visit to Obasanjo at his Penthouse residence located within the precinct of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Although details of the visit could not be ascertained, multiple sources close to the meeting confided in LEADERSHIP that the meeting may be connected to the 2027 general election, particularly the presidency and the state governorship seat which Hon. Ladi Adebutu, son of a billionaire lottery mogul and Obasanjo’s friend, Sir. Keshington Adebutu is contesting for the 4th time.

Efforts at speaking with Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi proved unsuccessful, as he would not pick the phone calls put across to his number several times before it eventually switched off.

However, speaking exclusive with LEADERSHIP, the APC spokesman in Ogun, Nuberu, called on all APC supporters in the state and across the country not to lose sleep over the Obasanjo, Makinde, Fayemi and Oyinlola meeting.

He declared that leadership of the party would not lose any sleep over the meeting, stressing that the visitation was in no way, a threat to his party’s chances of winning both in the state and at the federal level.

“What do we have to do with somebody visiting anybody in the state? The most important thing to note is that it is the electorates that will vote and given the pedigree of the personalities involved in the said Abeokuta meeting, they are in no way a threat to the chances of APC winning all the elective positions being contested particularly here in Ogun State.

“Even when all of them were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was then the government of the day at the center and they had virtually all their state governors intact, they were beaten hands-down, not now that we are consolidating on the gains of democracy. That is not a threat to anybody.

“APC is the party to beat and given the pedigree of all the candidates we are fielding for all the elective positions, particularly the governorship position in person of distinguished Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and other popular and tested candidates of the party, APC has no problem”.

“Again, given the nature and process of the APC primaries on the consensus candidate where peace and tranquility reigned, we are of the stronger belief that all challenges are surmountable. The party is more determined than before to win the forthcoming election at all levels. So, that visitation was in no way, a threat to our chances of winning both in Ogun State and at the Federal level”.
