Lekki Port has reached another milestone in its drive to become a leading maritime hub in West Africa with the launch of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)’s new weekly feeder service, a development expected to improve Nigeria’s access to global markets and strengthen international trade.
The maiden call of the new service commenced on Monday, August 3, 2026, establishing a strategic shipping link between Lekki Port and Lomé, Togo. The service is designed to provide Nigerian importers and exporters with seamless access to MSC’s extensive global shipping network.
Under the arrangement, import cargoes from MSC’s worldwide network will be transshipped through Lomé before being distributed to Lekki Port, Apapa Port and Tin Can Port. Similarly, export cargo from Lekki Port will be routed through Lomé, where it will connect to MSC’s mainline vessels serving Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean, North America and South America.
Commenting on the development, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, described the launch as another significant milestone in the port’s journey to becoming the leading transshipment and gateway port in West Africa.
According to him, the decision by MSC, one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, to introduce the service reflects growing confidence among global shipping lines in Lekki Port’s world-class infrastructure and operational efficiency.
“The commencement of MSC’s weekly feeder service is another important milestone in our journey to establish Lekki Port as the leading transshipment and gateway port in West Africa.
“This service provides our customers with faster, more efficient and reliable access to MSC’s extensive global shipping network through Lomé, creating new opportunities for Nigerian businesses to expand their reach into international markets while enhancing the competitiveness of the country’s import and export trade,” Qiang said.
He noted that the new service further strengthens Lekki Port’s position within the regional maritime ecosystem while supporting trade facilitation, regional integration and sustainable economic growth.
Qiang added that as cargo volumes continue to increase, Lekki Port remains committed to expanding its service offerings and forging strategic partnerships that will deliver greater value to customers across Nigeria and beyond.
The launch of the MSC weekly feeder service is expected to improve cargo movement efficiency, reduce transit time and provide Nigerian exporters with broader access to key international markets through one of the world’s largest shipping networks.
