The Kwara State Government has announced that 176 persons abducted during the February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom.

The development was made public on Wednesday through a post on the state government’s official Facebook page, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over the fate of the victims.

“Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” the government stated.

Recall that the victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities of Woro and Nuku on motorcycles, launching a coordinated assault that reportedly lasted for several hours.

The attack was widely described as one of the deadliest incidents ever recorded in Kwara State. Reports at the time indicated that more than 200 people were killed, several others sustained injuries, homes and businesses were destroyed, and many residents were forced to flee their communities.

Local vigilante groups that attempted to repel the attackers were reportedly overwhelmed, with some members allegedly trapped and burnt inside their office during the assault.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government had not provided details on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release, including whether the freedom was secured through a rescue operation, negotiations, or any other arrangement.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the development.

The announcement has, however, sparked relief among families of the victims and residents of Kaiama, who have endured months of fear and displacement following the February attack.
