Afrobeats star Davido has appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to use his influence to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Osun State.
The singer’s appeal comes after the All Progressives Congress (APC) appointed Uzodimma as chairman of its National Campaign Council for the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Speaking during a press conference, Davido said he had heard rumours of possible attempts to interfere in the electoral process. While noting that he could not verify the claims, he urged the governor to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their preferred candidate freely.
The award-winning singer also referenced his personal connection to Imo State, explaining that his wife, Chioma, hails from the state, making his appeal one he described as sincere.
“To our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir. I have heard rumours suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election. I do not present this case as fact, but I appeal to you, sir, to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidates freely.
“I have a deep connection to Imo State; my wife, Chioma, is from your state, which makes this appeal more sincere. Please, let Osun remain peaceful,” he said.
Davido’s comments come as political campaigns intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with stakeholders calling for a peaceful, free and credible poll.
