The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Adejoke Ayomide, over an alleged visa fraud involving the sum of N42.3 million obtained from prospective travellers under the guise of securing travel visas to Europe.
The suspect was accused of defrauding over 90 intending travellers after allegedly presenting herself as a travel consultant capable of facilitating visas to Spain, Portugal and France.
The Police Command, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrest followed a written petition dated July 17, 2026, submitted by Barrister Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi & Associates.
The petition alleged that Ayomide fraudulently obtained huge sums of money from the petitioner and several other victims between October 2024 and April 5, 2026.
According to the Command, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect collected payments from more than 93 intending travellers for visa processing and travel documentation, with the funds reportedly paid into her Opay account.
The Police said the suspect allegedly received a cumulative sum of N42,326,000 but failed to fulfil her promises, after which she became unreachable, prompting the victims to report the matter to the authorities.
“Rather than fulfil her obligations, the suspect allegedly became unreachable after receiving the funds, prompting the victims to petition the Police,” the Command stated.
Following the complaint, detectives of the Ondo State Police Command commenced an intelligence-driven investigation, using forensic and other investigative techniques to trace the suspect.
The Police said sustained efforts by detectives led to the successful arrest of Ayomide during a coordinated operation, adding that she is currently in custody where she has made useful statements to investigators.
The Command noted that investigations are still ongoing to uncover the full scope of the alleged fraudulent scheme, identify possible accomplices and determine whether there are additional victims.
