Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has maintained its position as Europe’s largest supplier of jet fuel for the second consecutive month, overtaking the United States and reinforcing Nigeria’s growing influence in the global aviation fuel market.

Latest European import data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler showed that more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel produced by the 700,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery were delivered to Europe in July. The volume accounted for about 20 per cent of the continent’s total jet fuel imports during the month.

The latest performance follows a record 466,000 tonnes exported to Europe in June, when the Nigerian refinery first surpassed the United States to become Europe’s leading supplier of imported aviation fuel.

The refinery’s consistent export performance underscores its capacity to meet the stringent quality standards required by one of the world’s most demanding fuel markets while strengthening Nigeria’s standing in international refined petroleum trade.

According to the Kpler data, Europe imported approximately 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote accounting for the single largest share ahead of traditional suppliers from the United States and the Middle East.

Industry analysts said the refinery is gradually reshaping established fuel trade routes across the Atlantic Basin by providing European buyers with a competitive and reliable alternative to long-standing suppliers.

They noted that Dangote Refinery’s strategic location on Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, coupled with its modern technology, large production capacity and export infrastructure, has enabled it to rapidly gain market share in Europe.

The refinery’s export momentum has also been supported by rising production levels. Jet fuel loadings at Dangote’s Lekki export terminal climbed to a record 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries to the refinery reached an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day, providing sufficient feedstock to sustain increasing exports of refined petroleum products.

The latest achievement comes amid shifting global energy supply patterns. Although Europe continued to receive smaller volumes of jet fuel from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman in July, supply concerns linked to geopolitical developments around the Strait of Hormuz have prompted buyers to diversify their sourcing.

Against this backdrop, Dangote Refinery has emerged as a dependable supplier capable of meeting Europe’s aviation fuel demand while enhancing Nigeria’s profile in global energy markets.

Speaking on the refinery’s expanding export footprint, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, David Bird, said the company has continued to broaden its reach beyond aviation fuel.

“Beyond aviation fuel, the refinery has continued to expand exports of diesel, gasoline and other refined petroleum products to destinations across Europe, Africa and other international markets, further strengthening Nigeria’s position as a net exporter of high-value petroleum products,” Bird said.

The refinery’s growing success in Europe is widely seen as another milestone in Nigeria’s drive to become a major exporter of refined petroleum products, reducing dependence on fuel imports while boosting foreign exchange earnings through value-added exports.
