Newcastle Reject Manchester United Approach For Lewis Hall

Newcastle United have rejected an initial enquiry from Manchester United for England international Lewis Hall, making it clear that the 21-year-old left-back is not for sale this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle turned down United’s approach two weeks ago and have no intention of entering negotiations for Hall, who has three years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are instead looking to strengthen their own squad by signing another full-back during the transfer window, rather than losing one of their key young players.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly identified Hall as a leading target as he looks to secure a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.

United’s need for a left-back has increased following Tyrell Malacia’s departure on a free transfer, leaving Shaw as the club’s only senior option in the position.

However, Newcastle’s determination to retain Hall has been strengthened by significant changes to their squad this summer. The club have already lost several high-profile players, including Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.

Under new head coach Matthias Jaissle, Newcastle reportedly regard Hall as an important part of their rebuilding plans and are unwilling to sanction another major departure.

Although reports have suggested that Hall could command a fee of around £60 million, Newcastle are currently refusing to discuss a price and believe only an exceptional offer would make them reconsider their position.

The rejection leaves Manchester United searching for alternatives, with Fulham’s Antonee Robinson among the players being considered for the left-back position.

United could also redirect part of their remaining transfer budget towards strengthening midfield before the transfer window closes.
