Federal Govt Releases N11.58bn Social Security Grant For 178,342 Jigawa Beneficiaries

The Federal Government of Nigeria has released over N11.58 billion for the implementation of the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant, targeting over 178,342 beneficiaries in Jigawa State.

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon Auwal Danlado Sanka, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the progress made in the implementation of the programme in the state.

He stated that the programme initially captured 254,413 less privileged households but was later expanded to cover 178,342 beneficiaries across the 37 local government areas of the state.

Sanka revealed that the implementation of the programme commenced in January 2026, during which 126,639 households were fully settled in the first phase.

“We are currently in the second phase of the programme. A total of 25,300 payment cards are under distribution to registered beneficiaries, and we hope to complete this before the end of August.

“In this second phase, the beneficiaries will receive a total grant of N1,997,500,000, in line with the programme’s guidelines,” he said.

Sanka also noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, out of compassion and concern for the common man, increased the grant from N10,000 per payment cycle to N25,000, to align with current economic realities and market indices.

“The main objective of the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant is to support less privileged families in improving their livelihood and nutrition security. It also aims to enhance the local micro-economy, as 99 per cent of the grant is projected to be spent at the local level.

“If you inject such an amount of money into the local economy, it will have multidimensional positive impacts on rural and national productivity, thereby supporting GDP growth.

“As economists have posited, if you support consumption, you are indirectly promoting production. More production translates to more job creation, which in turn leads to wealth creation, growth and development,” he stated.

The commissioner commended the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for providing support and an enabling environment for the successful implementation of the programme, which has already begun yielding fruitful results.

“Thanks to President Tinubu, thanks to Governor Namadi, thanks to members of our team, and all stakeholders who contributed to making this dream a reality,” Sanka added.
