Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is seeking ways to win voters’ hearts. The governor has released N300 million to organise mass weddings in the state.
The governor is continuing a tradition started by previous administrations in the state by taking on the role of providing social investment programmes.
During a pre-marital orientation programme at the Government House on Thursday, the Chairman of the state’s Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, disclosed how the ceremonies will unfold and what each couple will receive.
He said each bride is expected to receive N200,000 as dowry from the N300 million wedding bonanza, paid directly into her bank account for the sake of transparency.
In addition to cash, the state government is providing the couples with furniture, clothing, and food.
According to Daurawa, the intervention is intended to alleviate financial burdens in the early stages of marriage and promote family stability. The mass weddings, however, are not without conditions imposed by the Hisbah Board.
