Former leaders of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Taraba State have declared their support for Governor Agbu Kefas ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group, led by a former Vice President of NULGE in the state, Yabkwa Rimamnyang Usman, said it would mobilise its members across the 16 local government areas to support the governor’s re-election bid.

The former NULGE officials cited the payment of five months’ salary arrears owed local government workers and retirees as one of the reasons for their decision.

Usman said the payment had addressed part of the outstanding liabilities inherited by the administration, adding that former NULGE officials still had networks across the local government areas, wards and polling units.

“We have our members in every local government, every ward and every polling unit. We will mobilise them and make sure that Governor Kefas comes back to office in 2027,” he said.

The development followed the commencement of payment of five months’ salary arrears owed local government workers and retirees across the state’s 16 local government areas.

According to the state government, the arrears comprise two months inherited from the administration of Senator Sani Danladi, who served as acting governor in 2014, and three months incurred under the administration of former Governor Darius Ishaku between 2015 and 2023.

The government also directed local government chairmen to ensure transparency in the distribution of the funds and to ensure that entitlements due to deceased workers were paid to their rightful beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries of the payment include local government employees, primary school teachers, traditional council staff and local government pensioners.
