Miss World Nigeria 2026: Tamunosoye Takes Dark-Skin Beauty To Global Stage

Nigeria’s relationship with skin tone and beauty standards has long been complicated, with lighter skin often unfairly presented as the preferred ideal in popular culture and beauty conversations.

Now, Tamunosoye Karibi-George, Miss World Nigeria 2026, is drawing attention on the global stage with her rich, dark complexion, commanding presence and unapologetic representation of African beauty.

Karibi-George, who represented Bayelsa State at the national pageant, was crowned Miss World Nigeria 2026 after emerging ahead of 19 other finalists at the grand finale in Lagos. The 26-year-old communications professional, who hails from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is currently representing Nigeria at the 75th Anniversary Edition of the Miss World Festival in Vietnam.

Her appearance in Vietnam has generated conversations among Nigerians and pageant followers about representation, particularly the visibility of darker-skinned African women in international beauty competitions.

Beyond her appearance, however, Karibi-George is taking a purpose-driven approach to the global competition. She is involved in Beyond Labels, an initiative focused on inclusion and creating opportunities for children with disabilities and special needs. She has also been involved in climate advocacy, vocational skills training and youth empowerment.

Her national victory came under the theme “Pride, Power and Purpose,” reflecting the pageant’s emphasis on leadership, advocacy and community impact alongside beauty and confidence.

Karibi-George also has a notable legacy to live up to. Her predecessor, Joy Mojisola Raimi, reached the Top 20 at the 72nd Miss World Festival in India and finished among the Top Five contestants from Africa.

For Karibi-George, the Vietnam stage therefore presents an opportunity not only to compete for the Miss World crown but also to project a broader image of Nigerian womanhood, one that embraces deep skin tones, purpose, intellect, advocacy and cultural identity.

And with Nigeria having previously produced Agbani Darego, the first Nigerian and first Black African woman to win Miss World, expectations around the country’s representatives remain high.

The question now is whether Karibi-George can turn the growing attention around her into a strong performance at Miss World 2026.
