Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi, widely known for his role in the classic Yoruba movie Owo Blow, has shared details of the severe financial hardship he has experienced in recent years.
Speaking during an interview on the Talk to B show hosted by actress Biola Bayo, the actor revealed that he sold his Nissan Quest car for ₦180,000 to purchase a second-hand motorcycle after acting roles dried up and his photography business stalled.
Afolabi explained that his decision to relocate from Lagos to Badagry in pursuit of building a house contributed to a major setback in his acting career. He stated that he resorted to driving commercial minibuses in Lagos to earn a legitimate living, adding that he preferred hard labor to begging for food.
The actor, whose career began in the 1970s with roles in classic television productions such as Village Headmaster and Super Story, broke down in tears as he recounted painful public insults and the toll the situation has taken on his family.
Following the interview, host Biola Bayo made a direct appeal to the public for donations, including better accommodation and a working car, to assist the veteran actor in rebuilding his livelihood through ride-hailing services.
